John Sebik, 40, a Information Security and Cybersecuity major from Bayonne is running for State Assembly for Jersey City and Bayonne’s 31st District as a write-in candidate. Sebik grew up in the Greenville section of Jersey City and then moved to Bayonne at age six. He attended St. Mary’s for one year and then St. Joseph’s in Bayonne and finally Bayonne High School. Sebik has attended NJCU for the past two years and is currently enrolled in the Master of Science program specializing in Cybersecurity/Information Assurance. Most people may recognize him as the guy always with a coffee, studying mostly in the Union or at the library. You may also recognize him as the guy on a billboard at the Lightrail at Newport Mall.
Sebik said, “The best part of being on campus is being able to spark up the most interesting conversations outside of most buildings with students and professors alike. Conversations range from school work, the economy, and a lot of times politics. By talking more and more with people, I said to myself, ‘Wow, have I found my calling.’”
On his goals as a politician Sebik said, “I want to engage students, small businesses and families in daily conversations. I want to hear the problems and find solutions. I want people to read my lips and look into my eyes and see my passion.”
“I want to work with the current administration to represent students about their tuition and give them a direct line to the State. I’m outspoken, especially for my fellow NJCU students.”
When asked about the campaign trail Sebik said, “I’ve been campaigning through word of mouth and social media outlets, such as Twitter and Facebook. I’m not asking for money, just support and volunteers.”
“I feel that the 31st District is important, I grew up here and see that there have been negative changes. I think that it’s time for a change and that it’s time for politicians to listen to the strong voice of the people and students.”
John Sebik is running as a write-in candidate. The election will be on Tuesday, November 8.
