New Jersey City University’s Salsa Club is a great way to meet friends and stay active while having a great time. It is an environment filled with people and music that will get you grooving to the rhythm.
Julio Santodomingo, a senior at NJCU, founded the Salsa Club in 2006 in an effort to introduce the students of NJCU to the wonderful world of salsa dancing. The club was also enacted in order to have its’ dancing members participate in salsa competitions, but don’t let that hinder your involvement. The club is place for people who love salsa to get together and dance.
Santodomingo wanted the club to be a fun experience for both newcomers and experts, together with Samantha Nunez, the president of the club; Milghian Valasquez, the vice president of the club; and Natalie Rojas, the treasurer; the club has become a wonderful place filled with salsa music and the basic steps.
It isn’t easy to dance salsa especially if you have never danced before but everyone in the club is helpful and supportive. It doesn’t matter what your race is, everybody can dance as long as they are willing to try! The mistakes don’t make a difference either; they will keep encouraging you to move forward.
Milghian Velasquez, the vice president of the club says, “Everything I’ve learned about salsa, I have learned here.”
If you would like to learn more about this club, visit their group on Facebook or stop by the Multi-purpose room in Guilligan Student Union Building on any Thursday of every week at three o’clock in the afternoon. They’ll be there and ready to get down!
