NJCU’s tuition just went up, but before you grab your picket signs, you should take a look at some interesting data.
Believe it or not, a college degree is still worth it. According to a recent study done by the Lumina Foundation and Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce, those of us still in college will fare better than those who didn’t go at all.
Even if you decide to drop out, (the semester just started, you can still get your money back!), students with some college education fare better than those who don’t have any at all.
Yes, the job market sucks, all four-year graduates have a 4.5 percent unemployment rate. For recent graduates, it’s 6.8. The biggest noticeable difference is the unemployment rate for high school graduates with only a high school diploma: 24 percent.
The study also shows that, even when unemployment was over 10 percent, the economy still managed to add over 200,000 jobs for students with bachelor’s. Since then it’s created over two million.
Over time, students with a college degree will earn, on average, $1.3 million more.
I may not be a math major, but I think that amount far outweighs our $200 tuition increase.
