“There aren’t enough hours in the day!” Sound familiar?
With hectic part-time (if not full-time) jobs in addition to taking care of families, NJCU community members have strict schedules to follow. Many students can barely squeeze a three-hour class session into their schedule, and the process of even getting into those classes is frustrating.
As the semester nears it end, most students are prepping for the upcoming term by meeting with their academic advisors to plan their class schedule. Here is where a problem arises: Some students feel there aren’t enough classes offered.
In many cases, students are unable to either register for desired sections because they are full, or the classes that are available don’t mesh with their work schedules.
There are student who get into the classes they want with no issue. But they may also be the ones who run into the issue of last minute class cancellations. If there are not enough students enrolled into a specific class, it is possible that the class will be canceled. There are not enough seats in some classes, and not enough students in others. Some students do not receive the notifications and miss the opportunity to enroll in another class, or have to quickly search for another class to take its place.
Some students searching for courses last minute may be interested in filling the seats in classes that are on the cutting block. But when you enroll late, you usually don’t have many options. Enrolling late also means a class you really wanted to take gets cancelled before you sign up.
We work making the puzzle pieces fit when it comes to our schedules. We can’t scramble, last minute, with the hopes of finding another required class that will fit where we need it. Timing is everything.
