With the holiday season sucking all of the change and lint right out of your pockets, it’s hard to re-up on your wardrobe. This is exactly why I stick to my key tips when the temperature starts to plummet.
Shop for color specific items.
There are three colors I found look great in any fabric. When you narrow your choices down by color, you can shop any sale rack and just layer up.
Those colors are burgundy (which is in this season), navy blue, and black.
Attempt to splurge on some “Dark- Safe” clothing detergent will be your best friend when keeping your darks dark.
Limit washing your jeans.
This keeps them in tip-top shape and shade. Of course, spot clean them, but don’t throw them in the wash after every wear. This is a trick I picked up a few years ago after reading about denim and how Tommy Hilfiger never washes his jeans. ‘I never wash my Levi’s,’ said the designer when he was asked about his denim.
Dark Denim pared with anything at all and a good shoe gives of a polished look without having to break the bank.
Keep warm.
After you’ve found a few pairs of pants and shirts that you can layer, accessorize with lighter shades. Try cream hats, beige or brown boots, multi-colored scarves, and if you are into make-up, jazz your outfit up with a deep lipstick or a smoky eye.
Be sassy and bundle up!
Recycle your summer items.
One of the greatest things about winter is being able to layer. Go through you closet and find your favorite summer dress, layer it with a cardigan and black leggings, and a boot, and you’ll look great.
Make your summer wardrobe work for you. Skirts and dresses are the easiest items to reuse throughout the year. You don’t have to spend too much to look great this winter, head back into your summer closet and use your winter eyes to come up with new outfits.
Enjoy.
Remember that clothes are a way we can express who we are without words. If it feels good, wear it.
