“I’M GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!” screamed Wilson after finding out he won.
We’re not talking about the Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, but NJCU’s Sean Wilson, 25, criminal justice major from Jersey City, who won the Castrol Edge Super Bowl Ticket Blitz contest.
During the weekend of the Super Bowl, NFL Fans were asked to snap selfies near three different locations in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut; revealing winners daily from January 22-31.
On January 31, while on his way to Journal Square, Wilson took a selfie with the hashtag #JointheHunt, and posted it on the official Castrol Edge Facebook page. Less than two hours later, he received a notification on Facebook.
Wilson had won two tickets to Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
“Saturday eve of the Super Bowl, a representative from Castrol Edge came to my home in Jersey City and handed me two tickets. My father is a very hard working man. He deserves to have fun and enjoy the moment,” Wilson said.
This would be the first football game he and his dad ever attended together. Wilson is an avid sport fanatic, and was so anxious that he could not sleep for two nights.
“As soon as we exited the Secaucus junction, you could feel the excitement and the energy,” said Wilson.
Wilson is originally from Inglewood, California. Although his favorite NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys, he was rooting for the Seattle Seahawks to win the Super Bowl.
Wilson feels a California connection with the Seahawks organization. Running back Marshawn Lynch is from Oakland, cornerback Richard Sherman is from Compton, and head coach Pete Carroll is from San Francisco CA, and has been very active in the community ever since his coaching days at the University of Southern California.
“The best part was when I witnessed Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin’s opening half kickoff return for 87 yards. All the Bronco trash talkers lost all hope after that,” said Wilson.
Before winning the sweepstakes Wilson was planning to watch the game like most of America; on TV. Instead, he and his father watched their first football game together from the end zone in MetLife Stadium and created a memory they will never forget.
Along with the two tickets, Wilson received two seat cushions filled with Super Bowl paraphernalia. His Super Bowl experience may never be matched. It is a great start to an incredible year for Wilson, who is awaiting graduation in May, and is planning to start his PhD in the fall.
