On February 5th the athletics department held the 29th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

125 girls, ages ten and up, attended the event that was held at NJCU’s John J. Moore

Athletic Center. These young girls were introduced to NJCU President, Sue Henderson, who was

accompanied by other influential women at NJCU who believe athletics are important to explore.

The girls began with a mentoring session and learned how athletics can change your life

for the better. They were also able to learn some vital information from staff of the Women’s

Center on campus.

During the second part of the clinic, the girls explored sports offered at NJCU. Rotating

through different sports departments, the girls were able to meet with representatives from

women’s basketball, soccer, volleyball, and cross country.

With each sport, the girls were able to learn something different and were able to see

what women athletes at NJCU go through on a daily basis for their practices.

The girls were not only ecstatic about sports by the end of the day, but they also were

determined to share what they learned with everyone back at their schools.
