Last month, Victoria Jenn Rodriguez was the guest speaker for the Office of Campus Life Power Moves workshop. Rodriguez is a career strategist/brand consultant and CEO of VJR Enterprises a company dedicated to empowering people to be themselves. In the workshop Rodriguez covered topics such as managing your brand on social media and in real life. She explained that your brand is made up of who you are and what have to offer. One of the main points that Rodriguez made was that you should be mindful of the message you’re conveying because it could possibly lead to a job.

She stressed the importance of dressing professionally and used herself as an example and told the audience that to be taken seriously in the male dominated business world she had to stop wearing earrings that dangle. Audience members then created their own elevator pitches and helped them practice. She then moved on to the importance of networking (because 80 percent of jobs nowadays are acquired through knowing somebody) and proceeded to give tips on marketing your brand through LinkedIn by creating a summary and headline, taking a professional photo, and sharing articles that you’re interested in to help create a unique profile.
