WELCOME BACK!
NJCU is OPEN for the Fall 2025 year. OPEN and back for business. It is time for your weekly Gothic Times news coverage to return. Consider this a formal welcome.
You may be thinking.. What did I miss? Look no further.
The biggest news for NJCU, that we’re all aware of, is the planned merger with Kean University. The merger is projected to be finalized by June 2026 and all academics, athletics, and other programs like clubs will continue uninterrupted.
Any student currently enrolled or apart of the 2025-2026 freshman class are guaranteed that their programs will continue and they will be able to graduate on time, no do not fret.
New Jersey City University will also be renamed to Kean Jersey City.
Over the summer other, maybe less known updates happened:
Andrés Acebo has been formally installed as NJCU’s 13th president! He was previously serving as an interim president, though now he is officially in charge of NJCU.
There are also plans for a new Student Development and Community Engagement Strategic Plan, which is a five-year initiative (2024-2028) to foster student success and community connections.
As of September 2025, Washington Monthly ranked NJCU as the #1 public university in New Jersey in its Master’s University Rankings. Go us!
The Dunkin Donuts has also been replaced with a Cortaditos in the Congressman Frank J. Guarini Library. It is a Cuban coffee shop with a wide range of sandwiches, drinks, and overall good vibes.
GSUB now only takes orders via kiosk or on the GrubHub app, you no longer speak to someone face to face.
And what may be the most important update of all…. The NJCU campus cat started hanging out more in front of the library. There is a son and a father, the son is less friendly so be careful he might kill you with cuteness. They are both ready for food and ready to be pet.
