The purpose of the NJCU Business Society is to build a business associated community through the gaining and understanding of social, cultural, and environmental trends that impact business. This society is a member of the Student Government Organization (SGO), and was established in 1996.
The Business Society helps students to broaden their experiences, expand their knowledge, and teach them how to network in the industry. Their chapter, American Marketing Association (AMA), was founded on the NJCU main Jersey City Campus in February 2014.
It provides students with the opportunity to engage in real world marketing, and helps students gain valuable experience managing finances, people, projects, and deadlines; all while improving skills to highlight on your résumé and discovering how to market yourself.
Every year, there is an International Collegiate Conference that provides the ultimate marketing experience-delivering advanced knowledge from marketers in the field, leading edge practices and networking opportunities.
You get online access to an official publication of the AMA, Marketing News, and that’s included in the membership. The Collegiate Connection newsletter features articles from recent college graduates, industry updates, career development information, and tips on chapter management.
AMA student members have access to members-only on line resources. The Marketer’s Toolkit can help you expand your knowledge and build your marketing skill set with a comprehensive collection of interactive tools, templates, and resources in a single location. AMA launched a series of certificate programs that prepares you for life beyond college, and helps make you more marketable to employers, and gives you a competitive advantage in your job search.
Becoming an AMA member can give you experience in leadership opportunities such as being a part of an annual marketing case competition, and participating in contests, and competitions to further your professional development by providing you with real world experience. You can receive recognition and earn career resources.
The national marketing honorary, Alpha Mu Alpha, recognizes outstanding scholastic achievement in marketing. The College2Career Resource Center provides collegiate students and recent graduates with resources, such as webinars, podcasts, articles, etc. to help you successfully search for job opportunities, plan and manage your career path, and successfully make the transition to life as a productive marketing professional.
AMA offers additional career management resources to assist marketing graduates as they enter the workforce. You can search AMA’s popular job and internships board, find career advice in the Ask the Expert series, or boost your skills in their Marketing Bootcamps.
As a collegiate member, you’ll receive all of this and more for a very low membership fee. Transition from collegiate membership to AMA’s Young Professional Membership after graduation and receive more than 50 percent discounted membership rate for up to three years.
It costs $47 for the membership, and paid by check or money order. All students can join the AMA and Business Society, regardless of major. If you are interested in joining the AMA and the Business Society, you can go to the Professional Studies Building in room 423, and ask for an application.
You can also call faculty advisor Melissa Martirano at (201) 200-2402 or via e-mail at [email protected], [email protected]. The next American Marketing Association meeting will be on June 11, 2014, from 4-6 p.m.
