Clash on the Canvas at NJCU

NJCU’S Clash on the Canvas pitted two of New York city’s finest painters. Both of these painters competed with a NJCU alumni. All of the artists were personally handpicked by

the Assistant Director of Campus Life and event host, Jeffrey Dessources. The Office of Campus Life sponsored the event.

The heated art battle took place on October 4 in the GSUB lobby. Many students attended and were left in awe at the spectacular art that unfolded right before their eyes. NJCU Junior Nasir McDaniels states, “When I walked into GSUB, I was blasted with a rush of creativity. I watched in awe as the painters created life; magic unfolded with every splash of their paintbrush.”  Dessources said, “They had one hour to create a painting on the spot. There was no theme for the battle, as far as art content. We’ve done this event since Fall of 2016.”

The winners were Andre Trenier who finished in 1st, Paulie Nassar in 2nd, and Jasmine Bryant who secured the spot for 3rd.  “Paulie’s painting was raffled off to a lucky student and Bryant’s painting will be auctioned off for a charitable cause to be named later,” Dessources explained. Students from Innovation High School were also in attendance.
