NJCU Softball played Albion College and Drew University on March 5 in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. In Game 1 against Albion, Christina Mezey, Dayanara Flores, Juilana Squeo, Hannah Gavin, Gianna Benacquista, Melissa Mendoza, Arianna Scrimo, Kayla Clarke, and Jamilet Leonardo were at the plate batting. All players received an at-bat (AB), a few hits (H) and Flores was the only player to receive a RBI. As pitcher, Mezey collected 12 hits (H), 11 runs (R), 10 earned runs (ER), 6 walks (BB) and 4 strikeouts (SO) throughout the game. Zoe Viant was also the only player to collect a run (R). Flores singled to center field where she received her RBI in the fifth inning. Maryam Dahhan was able to advance to second base and Viant scored. The Gothic Knights lost 1-11.   

In Game 2 against Drew University, Mezey, Flores, Squeo, Gavin, Benacquista, Mendoza, Scrimo, Clarke, and Leonardo received an at-bat (AB), a few hits (H) and Flores was the only player to get a RBI. Mezey was back on the mound as pitcher where she collected 8 hits (H), 7 runs (R), 9 walks (BB) and 5 strikeouts (SO). Benacquista struck out swinging which allowed for Gavin to advance to second base, Squeo advanced to third and Flores stole home (unearned) in the sixth inning. Flores tripled to right center and Scrimo scored in the seventh inning. The Gothic Knights lost 2-7. The Gothic Knights will face Anna Marie College and Elms College on March 7. Stay tuned here and on the Gothic Knights for more information about NJCU Athletics.
