#NJCUSB Were Left Scoreless in Doubleheader

NJCU Softball challenged The College of New Jersey on April 24 for a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader. The team is currently 4-27 overall season and 0-15 in the NJAC. TCNJ pulled a stunning 0-8 shutout and lasted until the fifth inning in both games.

In Game 1, the Gothic Knights collected zero runs, one hit and one error.

Christina Mezey pitched 4 1/3 innings and threw a total of 103 pitches. She collected six earned runs, four walks, two strikeouts and five groundouts.

At the top of the fifth, Kayla Clarke received a walk and Mezey who singled was able to advance to second. The Gothic Knights didn’t have momentum to reach home plate. There were two players left on base by the end of the inning. TCNJ won the game with an eight-lead.

In Game 2, the Gothic Knights collected zero runs, one hit and two errors.

Christina Mezey pitched in three innings and threw a total of 49 pitches. She collected six earned runs, three walks, zero strikeouts and four groundouts

Amber Hunter made an appearance on the mound and lasted two-thirds of an inning.

Although the team was swept by TCNJ one hit was collected. In the top of the third, Melissa Mendoza grounded into a double play from pitcher to shortstop to first base. Dulce Almonte was out on the play.
