The first virtual Student Government Association (SGA) meeting was held on Monday, April 6. Many topics were discussed and questions were answered. A Town Hall Meeting with NJCU’s  Provost will be held on Monday, April 13th. More information will be sent out on Thursday or Friday this week in an email. Anyone interested will have to register and there are 1,000 spots available. 

          Ricky Cruz, president of the Student Government Association (SGA), said work is still ongoing to create a travel plan for commuter students to receive help traveling to school and home, but it will begin in the first week of September. Cruz said it was “not an easy decision due to the circumstances.”  It was impossible, he said, to start the program this semester due to classes being switched to online instruction. Debates, Scholarships and More

Vice President of SGA, Sunky Chang, said that SGA Debates will be held Monday, April 20th at 2 to 4 p.m. 

The SGA will be giving away scholarships while applications are still open. Scholarships are worth between $500 to $1000 each. All NJCU students are eligible to apply to two scholarships, with the chance to be awarded one scholarship per semester. Applications are due on May 1, 2020 at 5 p.m. For any question, email Sunky Chang, at [email protected]. 

In other news, the SGA Vice President of Finance, Marcus Daniels, said that anyone with budget requests should “gather your budget requests for the remainder of the semester.” The limit for budget requests is $10,000 dollars maximum. 

SGA Vice President of Public Relations, Ebony Drew, said that the SGA year-end Awards Ceremony will be virtual and that there will be no plaques but there will be awards. A date was not yet announced. 

 Elexis Young from the NJCU Speicher-Rubin Women’s Center, announced that the Women’s Center is holding a Community Hour every Thursday at 2 p.m. to all those who need someone to talk to. The Sexual Assault Awareness Month zoom event is being rescheduled to April 16 at 6 p.m.;  students or anyone interested can check their NJCU email for updates.

As of April 7, classes can be added to the online cart in GothicNet and students can start registering on April 14.
