#NJCUSB Fall to Montclair in NJAC Doubleheader

NJCU Softball challenged Montclair State University on April 22 for a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader. The team is currently 4-26 for the overall season and 0-14 in the NJAC. The Gothic Knights was unable to generate enough runs to win in both games.

In Game 1, the team collected one run, eight hits and three errors.

Christina Mezey played in six innings and threw a total of 91 pitches. She collected five earned runs, four walks, three strikeouts and four groundouts.

At the top of the second, Mezey reached on a fielder’s choice which allowed Hannah Gavin to advance to third and later score on the error. Only one player was left on base in the end of the second. Juliana Squeo, Dayanara Flores, Melissa Mendoza and Gavin were game leaders in both hitting and fielding.

In Game 2, the team collected zero runs, four hits and two errors. The Gothic Knights had a 0-17 shutout. Juliana Squeo, Melissa Mendoza, Dulce Almonte and Arianna Scrimo were game leaders in hitting and fielding. Christina Mezey played in four innings and threw a total of 112 pitches. She collected 15 earned runs, one walk, one strikeout and three groundouts.

The Red Hawks fired eight impressive runs in the bottom of the first and later returned in the bottom of the fourth with three runs to secure a win.
