Aaliyah Duncan, 21, a COOP resident and management student from Newark, died of sickle cell at home with her family on Dec. 11 according to a university email sent out Wednesday afternoon.

This is the third death of an NJCU student within the last week and a half. Francis Clerie, 25, and Georgesette Shurn, 20, died of two unspecified illnesses in two consecutive days. Both Clerie and Shurn were commuter students and died off-campus.

At this time, Duncan’s family has asked for privacy as they are grieving. Details regarding Duncan’s funeral and memorial have yet to be made public. The Gothic Times will be updating as more details emerge.
