Nick Vaughn, 20, is a student and an athlete at NJCU playing with the Gothic Knights Baseball team. The Ocean Township native has a huge love for baseball that started as early as he can remember playing tee-ball at the age of three.

Vaughn was a four-year varsity baseball team player and a senior team captain coming from Ocean Township High School, where he and the team won the division during his senior season at Ocean Township.

Vaughn plays catcher in Division III of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), which is one of the most competitive Division III conferences in the nation.

Some of his accomplishments were being the Honorable Mention selection to the 2022-23 Academic All-NJAC team, and when he was also selected as an All-Star while playing in the ABCCL, also known as the Athletic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League in the summer of 2022.

In his first year with the Gothic Knights, he played and started in 32 games as a catcher and designated hitter with a batting average of .298 and a one-base percentage of .380. In his sophomore season, Vaughn played in 26 games with a batting average of .316.

Some of the highlights of Vaughn’s baseball career was when he had a 7-game hitting streak that included three straight 3-hit games. In a game against Rutgers-Camden, he got an extra-inning walk off hit to secure victory for the team.

The NJCU Baseball team’s main goal this year is to make it to the NJAC Playoffs and Vaughn is committed to play his hardest to win more games than his first two years. “My personal goal is to put up better numbers than last year in all categories.” said Vaughn.

The junior is enrolled as an Exercise Science major pursuing a career as a baseball coach and a physical education teacher and is dedicated to enjoying his college life. “Doing the whole college thing, working on campus, making a little money. Just enjoying my experience.” said Vaughn.

Be sure to look out for Vaughn this spring as NJCU baseball prepares for their upcoming 2024 campaign.
