At the start of the 2024 Gothic Knights baseball campaign, the team started a fundraiser to help raise money for all Student-Athletes to have a fun and an enjoyable college baseball experience.
The fundraiser was created by Head Coach Jerry Smith and the baseball team with a donation goal of $15,000.
According to a post from the NJCU Baseball Instagram page, the baseball team is using Blast Athletics, a fundraising application for clubs and schools, to fundraise online. A donation to the program will help the team with equipment, gear costs, travel, and trips along with so much more. Smith and a few members of the baseball team mentioned how important the support of family and friends is to the program.
Andre Dean, junior pitcher, talked about why fundraising is important for not just baseball, but other sports teams as well. He said, “College sports programs are becoming more expensive each year. Fundraising is an essential part of our program’s success.”
NJCU Baseball is now in its 77th season as an NCAA Division III Baseball Team in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). During Smith’s tenure as head coach, the team GPA has increased thanks to their commitment to academic excellence and athletic excellence. Under Smith’s leadership, the team has had their best seasons in its program’s history.
As of February 13th, the team has received 158 donations. So far, the team has successfully raised $14,755 to help fund their program activities. The fundraising period is currently live, and anyone who is interested in donating online can click on the link on the bio of the NJCU Baseball Instagram page for more information or click the link to the donation page below.
