Tickets are on sale now for this year’s Senior Formal. The event will take place at Fiesta on Route. 17, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., on Thursday April 26. Tickets are $25 per person and $50 per couple and can be purchased at the University Service Center in (GSUB) on the 1st Floor, right next to the bookstore.
Senior class president Jane Sepulveda said during a phone interview that “seniors have priority when purchasing tickets, but I honestly think it’s safe to say, [if there are a lot of tickets left] that we would sell to [other students] who would want to come out and party with the seniors.”
Students were given a chance to pick this year’s theme when the senior class e-board asked students to cast their vote on the best choice. The winner, “GQ,” trumped other party themes such as “A Night in Paris,” “Hawaiian Luau,” and “Surprise Me.”
Sepulveda believes that the best theme won.
She said that, “The event will be a great networking opportunity where students can exchange contacts and make new friends.”
This senior class e-board seems more determined than those in past years. Jane reveals, “I’m not sure if students were aware, but this is the first time in a few years that there is a full e-board.” She boasts that every member of the board is easy to work with, committed to enhancing the skills of the student body, and genuinely wants every student here at NJCU to feel more comfortable.
Jane, who is also president of the Geoscience Club, has been working with Class Treasurer Grace Valdes (President of the Sociology Club), as well as Secretary Jesus Aquino (RA in Vodra Hall) to make this year’s senior formal, the best the senior class has ever had.
Jane said that the e-board has been “trying to spread the word as much as they can,” contacting over 1500 graduating students about this year’s formal with the help of Monica Almonor, head of graduation clearance.
The e-board has even created a Facebook page to help promote the event.
“Not everyone checks their [NJCU] email, but we’re crossing our fingers, and hoping that they check their Facebook,” said Sepulveda.
Along with the page, NJCU Senior Banquet 2012, the board has created NJCU Senior Class 2012, a Facebook page where seniors can post their thoughts and comments, as well as get information on upcoming events at the school. The page launched over a week ago and now has 75 subscribers.
It seems to be a great success and has helped seniors communicate openly with one another. Within days of the page’s launch, the e-board came up with a great idea to have students carpool to the banquet, which will help other students without a ride attend the festivities.
In addition, the e-board welcomes all students to sit in on meetings and submit ideas that would benefit the campus community. These meetings take place every Wednesday from 12pm to 1pm in GSUB, Room 303.
As for this year’s formal, Jane encourages students to come to a meeting and “contribute ideas for party favors, decorations, and table centerpieces.”
They could use the help.
Things to Look Out For:
Jane provided the scoop on Senior Spa Day, an all-day event that will be held in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, right after mid-terms in March, where students will be able to unwind with saunas, pools, and hot-stone treatments. Tickets will be $30. She insists that “[Students] be there from the minute they open, to the minute they close. It’s worth the buck.”
“A lot of students are stressed out, have responsibilities outside of school, or are even mothers or fathers. The e-board is offering a way to de-stress,” says Sepulveda. The plan is to build rapport with students through fun activities not just educational seminars or lectures.
And…
The Senior Class E-Board has purchased 40 tickets to Six Flags for April 28th 2012, the weekend of the Senior Formal. They will be selling these tickets at a reduced price of $10 for all interested seniors. And don’t worry if you’re too late, Sepulveda concludes that “if there is a demand for more tickets, we may be able to purchase more!”
