Black Maria Film Festival Premiere: Feb. 4
January 22, 2016
Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Black Maria Film Festival will kick off on Feb. 4 at NJCU’s Gothic Lounge at 8 p.m. Of the five featured films being shown, one was made by a duo from Montclair. Ed Kashi (a documentary photographer who has worked for National Geographic) and Julie Winokur’s documentary “Notes for My Homeland,” tells the story of a Syrian-American composer responding to the tragedies instigated by the Assad regime by composing music in support of the Syrian Revolution, and performing it at great personal risk. Winokur will be present for a Q & A at the event, which is free to attend. Nick Paleologos, executive director of New Jersey State Council on the Arts and President Henderson will also be at the premiere.
